Hello world! modified
This is a modified version of the automatic first post created by the almost perfectly automatic installation of wordpress via Fantastico deluxe (I think). The original post said simply:
Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!
There was also one sample comment but I’m going to delete that.
The one-click, three easy steps install worked except that index.php in the site root would not run, it defaulted to the directory listing, even if you manually typed in the index.php part of the url! Clicking on the wp-admin subdir also produced a directory listing, but clicking on the index.php therein did work. So (a) the root dir is special and (b) the directory index setting of the server was ignoring index.php files. The solution was to create a .htaccess file in the root of the site and add index.php to the list of DirectoryIndex files.
Aside from that hiccup, the install appears to have worked. So I’m writing this in the dashboard (maybe that is what it is called?) and the site has the defaults in the right nav and the default theme. That is probably enough for tonight.
Comments on the docs for First_Steps_With_WordPress: really very well written!! Some terms seem dated and need to be updated to the current version, or list both. Most of them are easy to figure out (Presentation is Appearance) but it was a bit confusing. On Discussion_Options, typo: to accepts or declines .
