Sparkpeople.com

One vow that I have kept so far: if I lose my job, grab the opportunity to get in shape. I have exercised almost every single day. Fortuitously, at our annual early December visit-mom-on-her-birthday-with-no-grandkids-in-tow trip, my sisters and mom agreed to do some sort of online exercise program together. After all the research I could stand, I selected sparkpeople.com and I am really enjoying using it! As a picky online community type, I have a lot of complaints about the usability of the site, but it is good enough, which is really all that matters. I hope it gets better, but for now, it works for me.

The spike the week of 1/11 was because I went rock climbing (gym) twice, and then my husband and I spent the weekend hiking our butts off in the Marin Headlands.  It was wonderful, perfect weather, breathtaking views.

I love this graph.  Having the visual record of the fact that I actually did exercise is so reassuring.  But the downward trend is alarming!  I’m exercising 6 or 7 times a week, but it adds up to less exercise??  How can that be?  Easy answer, once I knew the question:  due to weather and scheduling problems, I only biked and rock climbed once each week instead of twice.  Those are my most intense exercise opportunities, so missing them has quite a visible impact on my graph.  Darn.  So I must manage to get to the rock gym twice this week.  Not only is it fun, but it is a waste of the membership fee to use it less.
