Listen to Teach, Speak to Learn

April 5, 2009

I found this quote, “Listen to teach, speak to learn”, when googling for “teach to learn” because I think you do not really know a subject until you attempt to teach it to someone else.  The page about listening to teach, speaking to learn is pretty interesting itself, but more on that another time.  I tagged it on delicious a while ago and remembered it now because I was looking for a title for this blog.  When I sent a message to the designer of the Azul theme, Jorge, asking his review of the customization (bastardization? that was the question) that I’d done to his theme, he said it looked fine and his only advice was to give my blog a better title.

So I’m going to try this title for a while, see if I like it.  According to the page I found it on:

Deeply etched in an archway in Myrtos-Pyrgos is the Minoan phrase, “Listen to teach, speak to learn.”

However, that page they link to, which has this picture of the ruins on it, does not show a picture nor make any text reference to the quoted aphorism.  So I’ve sent email to the author of the article, and I also googled about and found a researcher who appears to have studied Myrtos-Pyrgos, sent him the same question.  We’ll see if I get any replies.

Update: alas, the researcher says no such inscription!  Still hoping to hear from the author…
