G.ho.st – marketing you gotta love

July 25, 2009

Brazen attempts at marketing don’t usually make me feel like sending all my money to the perpetrators.  Fortunately, they are not selling anything yet, so the college fund is safe.

This inspiring article ran in the sjmerc today with the headline:Mascot_75w

Engineers from both sides launch a virtual desktop

This is marketing you just have to love, marketing at its best.  First of all, it is full of humor.  Little cartoon ghosts all over the place, an API called GOSPL, and multiple meanings to the ghost theme related to their service and the company’s workarounds to local challenges of doing business.  Plus, it even falls into the save-the-world category.

“I wanted to combine my technological interests with my social interests. I always wanted to do something to help resolve the complete mess that we’ve all made of this part of the world,”

so saith the CEO, Zvi Schreiber, of this ambitious little startup that employs engineers from both sides of the barrier that stretches along the frontier between Israel and the West Bank.  Here is their G.ho.st web Operating System PLatform:

I see no ground breaking new technology here, no secret sauce (not counting the lovable marketing), but I’m a fan and maybe soon a user because I hope, I really hope that what they have done is taken some of the awesome potential of the services available on the web today and woven them together in a neat little package that will be easy to understand and use.

Launching this venture in such a visible place, done by such an anti-walls team, is a blatant feat of marketing that you just have to adore.
